Janet Son joined Devry Smith Frank LLP as a summer student in 2018 and has now returned to the firm as an articling student. Janet is passionate about family law, child protection and education law and exploring alternative dispute resolution methods wherever possible.
Janet obtained her J.D. from the University of Ottawa and graduated cum laude in 2019. Prior to law school, Janet obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a major in Literature and Critical Theory, Minor in Diaspora and Transnational Students and Minor in Religion from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with high distinction in 2014.
At the University of Ottawa, Janet was actively involved in campus life. She was a producer for the faculty of law podcast “The Law School Show”, vice-president of the Christian Legal Fellowship chapter, a research assistant for Professor David Wiseman and the executive director of CLEO Julie Mathews on an access to justice project, and competed in the family law Walsh Negotiation competition where her team placed 1st and 2nd overall for best individual students.
Outside of the office, Janet is an avid traveler having been to over a dozen countries, she also enjoys interior design, organization systems a la the KonMari method and trying to live more sustainably.
