First Responders & Family Law Matters Posted onJune 22, 2016September 4, 2020/ Devry Smith Frank LLP In this video interview we talk about family law issues that are unique to first responders such as paramedics, police and firefighters with family lawyer John Schuman. John was also a paramedic for over 20 years before becoming a lawyer and still is an active paramedic. A first responder is a person who is likely one of the first professionals to arrive at the scene of an accident or natural disaster or terrorist attack. They are also certified to provide pre-hospital care. Typically we are talking about firefighters, paramedics and police. In this episode, we discuss some of the unique challenges that first responders have when it comes to family law issues like separation and divorce agreements and why pensions are incredibly important for first responders. We also discuss the challenges of child custody when it comes to first responders due to the hours worked and the demanding schedule. If you’re a first responder, I encourage you to watch this interview. If you would like more information or assistance on family law, please contact John Schuman at Devry Smith Frank LLP.
