There are 4 main purposes of the WSIA:

• To promote health and safety in the workplace.
• To facilitate the return to work and recovery of workers who sustain a personal injury arising out of in the course of employment or suffer from an occupational disease.
• To facilitate the reentry into the labour market of workers and spouses of deceased workers.
• To provide compensation and other benefits to workers and survivors of deceased workers.
